Enter your existing gross salary or CTC using the period selected below.
Enter the approved or proposed increment percentage.
Completed months at the old rate after the effective date.
Subtract gross arrears already received.
Calculation assumptions and additional options +

Percentage changes apply to the salary amount entered. Monthly and annual amounts are converted using 12 months. Arrears use the gross monthly difference, without interest, payroll deductions or partial-month proration.

This tool calculates gross salary changes. It does not automatically deduct income tax, employee PF, professional tax, insurance or other payroll deductions. Annual CTC revisions should be compared with annual CTC, not monthly take-home salary.

CALCULATION METHOD / 03

Salary Revision Calculator India Formula

The Salary Revision Calculator India uses straightforward arithmetic to calculate revised compensation. The formula depends on whether the employer announces a percentage increase, a fixed amount or a new salary figure.

Salary revision calculation formulas
Calculation Formula
Revised salary Old salary × (1 + hike percentage ÷ 100)
Increase amount Revised salary − old salary
Hike percentage (Revised salary − old salary) ÷ old salary × 100
Revised annual salary Revised monthly salary × 12
Annual salary increase Monthly salary increase × 12
Gross salary arrears Monthly salary difference × eligible months − arrears already paid
The formulas assume that the compared salaries use the same compensation basis. The percentage-change formula requires a nonzero original salary.

Example: ₹60,000 salary with a 10% increment

Salary increase = ₹60,000 × 10 ÷ 100 = ₹6,000. Revised monthly salary = ₹60,000 + ₹6,000 = ₹66,000. Revised annual salary = ₹66,000 × 12 = ₹7,92,000. The annual increase is ₹72,000 before taxes and deductions.

Use the same salary definition for both figures. Comparing old fixed pay against new CTC may produce a misleading hike percentage. If your employer includes performance incentives or employer-funded benefits, first review the Salary Breakup Calculator India.

01 UNDERSTAND YOUR RAISE

What Is Salary Revision in India?

Salary revision is a change to an employee's existing compensation, usually following an annual appraisal, promotion, market adjustment, company policy decision or negotiated employment agreement. The revision may increase or decrease compensation and can affect fixed pay, allowances, incentives and employer contributions.

The Salary Revision Calculator India helps translate a proposed change into monthly and annual numbers. Instead of looking only at the percentage announced by an employer, employees can examine the actual rupee difference and its effect on future compensation.

Salary revision versus salary increment

A salary increment normally refers to an increase in pay. Salary revision is broader: it may involve changes to the salary structure without an equivalent increase in take-home earnings. For example, an employer could increase CTC while also changing variable pay or employer-funded benefit components.

Consider an employee whose fixed monthly gross salary rises from ₹50,000 to ₹55,000. The increase is ₹5,000, equivalent to 10%. If a portion of the new package becomes performance-linked rather than guaranteed, however, the actual fixed-pay increase may be smaller.

Who should use this calculator?

  • Private-sector employees reviewing appraisal letters and revised salary structures.
  • HR professionals preparing salary revision proposals and employee communications.
  • Job seekers comparing compensation changes between employers.
  • Managers estimating the annual cost of proposed salary increases.
  • Employees checking retrospective increments and unpaid salary arrears.

The calculator is especially useful before accepting a new compensation proposal. It makes the arithmetic transparent while leaving employment terms, eligibility and payroll treatment to the relevant employer documents.

02 STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

How to Use Salary Revision Calculator India

Using the Salary Revision Calculator India requires only your current salary and the proposed change. The optional arrears fields help when the effective revision date is earlier than the date on which the employer implements the new payroll amount.

  1. Enter your current salary. Use your existing monthly gross salary or annual CTC as stated in your employment documents.
  2. Select the salary period. Choose monthly or annual. Keep the same basis when interpreting your revised salary.
  3. Choose a revision method. Select a percentage increase, fixed rupee increase, target revised salary or percentage decrease.
  4. Enter the revision value. For example, enter 12 for a 12% increase or ₹5,000 for a fixed monthly increase.
  5. Add arrears information. Enter the eligible months and any gross arrears already paid, if applicable.
  6. Calculate and review. Compare the revised monthly amount, annual salary, actual percentage change and estimated arrears.

Monthly salary versus annual CTC

If your current salary is ₹8,00,000 per year, select annual salary before entering the amount. A 10% increase produces a revised annual figure of ₹8,80,000. The corresponding monthly equivalent is approximately ₹73,333.33, compared with approximately ₹66,666.67 before revision.

That monthly equivalent is not necessarily your payslip gross or bank credit. Annual CTC can include employer PF, gratuity provisions, insurance and variable compensation. For take-home planning, use a separate CTC To In Hand Salary Calculator India after reviewing the revised structure.

How to interpret the result

The revised salary represents the compensation amount after applying the selected change. The monthly difference shows the amount added or removed each month. The annual difference measures the change over twelve months at the new rate, assuming the revision applies for a full year.

The percentage result also helps verify employer calculations. For instance, an increase from ₹40,000 to ₹46,000 is a 15% hike, while an increase from ₹40,000 to ₹44,000 is 10%. A larger rupee increase does not always mean a larger percentage increase when employees have different starting salaries.

03 APPRAISAL EXAMPLES

Salary Revision Examples for Indian Employees

Examples make salary revision calculations easier to interpret. The following scenarios use gross compensation figures without deducting income tax, employee provident fund or professional tax. They are mathematical illustrations, not claims about typical appraisal percentages in India.

Example 1: 8% salary revision

An employee earning ₹35,000 per month receives an 8% increase. The monthly increment is ₹2,800, producing a revised salary of ₹37,800. The previous annual salary was ₹4,20,000, while the revised annual salary becomes ₹4,53,600. The annual difference is ₹33,600.

Example 2: 15% promotion increment

An employee earning ₹75,000 per month receives a 15% promotion-related increase. The monthly addition is ₹11,250, and the revised salary becomes ₹86,250. Annualised compensation increases from ₹9,00,000 to ₹10,35,000, a difference of ₹1,35,000.

Example 3: Fixed salary increase

An employee earning ₹48,000 per month receives a fixed increase of ₹6,000. The revised monthly salary becomes ₹54,000. Dividing the increase by the original salary gives 12.5%. This example shows why the same fixed increase can represent different percentages for different employees.

Example 4: Revised annual package

An employee's annual CTC changes from ₹12,00,000 to ₹15,00,000. The increase is ₹3,00,000, equivalent to 25%. The monthly CTC equivalent rises from ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,25,000. Actual fixed gross pay and take-home salary depend on how the revised CTC is allocated.

Example 5: Salary reduction

An employee's monthly salary decreases from ₹80,000 to ₹72,000. The difference is negative ₹8,000 per month, or a 10% decrease. The annual reduction is ₹96,000. The calculator's decrease mode makes this type of compensation adjustment visible without presenting it as a positive hike.

These five examples demonstrate why the starting salary, calculation method and compensation basis matter. Use the Salary Revision Calculator India with your own figures rather than treating any example as a standard employer policy.

04 RETROSPECTIVE PAY

Calculate Salary Revision Arrears in India

Salary arrears may arise when a revised salary becomes effective before the employer starts paying it. The unpaid difference for the eligible period is commonly called salary arrears. The exact amount depends on the effective date, payroll processing date, salary components and payments already made.

The Salary Revision Calculator India estimates arrears using the monthly gross salary difference multiplied by the number of eligible months. It then subtracts gross arrears already paid. This method works for straightforward full-month revisions where the same salary difference applies throughout the period.

Arrears example

Previous salary: ₹50,000 per month. Revised salary: ₹55,000 per month. Monthly difference: ₹5,000. If the revised salary applies retrospectively for three completed months, gross arrears equal ₹5,000 × 3 = ₹15,000. If ₹4,000 has already been paid, the outstanding gross arrears are ₹11,000.

When arrears require additional calculations

Partial months, changing allowances, promotions during the arrears period and multiple revision rates need a more detailed payroll calculation. The same applies when a revision changes basic pay and consequently changes provident fund contributions or other salary-linked benefits.

Arrears may also affect income-tax withholding when paid. Their gross amount should not be confused with the amount finally credited to the employee's bank account. For tax-specific questions, consult the Income Tax Department and review the employer's payroll calculation.

Salary revision effective date

The effective date determines when the new salary entitlement begins. A revision announced in July might be effective from April, but only if the employer's written decision provides for that earlier date. Do not assume that every annual appraisal automatically creates retrospective arrears.

Employees should verify the revised salary letter, effective date, arrears period and treatment of allowances. The calculator provides an arithmetic estimate; it does not determine contractual entitlement or statutory eligibility.

05 PAYROLL PLANNING

How Salary Revision Affects Take-Home Pay

A gross salary increase does not always produce an equal increase in monthly take-home salary. Employee provident fund contributions, income-tax withholding, professional tax and other payroll deductions can change when compensation changes. The precise effect depends on the salary structure and applicable rules.

For example, a ₹10,000 increase in monthly gross salary does not guarantee ₹10,000 more in bank credit. If additional employee contributions or tax withholding apply, the net increase will be smaller. Employees should compare revised payslip components rather than relying exclusively on the headline increment.

Provident fund and basic salary

Provident fund contributions depend on the applicable wage basis, statutory requirements and employer arrangements. If a revision increases the contribution-bearing salary, employee PF deductions may change. Employer PF may also affect CTC presentation without being an additional deduction from gross pay.

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation publishes official information about provident fund rules. Employees can also use the related EPF Employee Contribution Calculator to understand contribution scenarios.

Income tax after a salary revision

An increment can increase annual taxable salary and change estimated tax withholding. The effect depends on the selected tax regime, available deductions, exemptions, other income and applicable tax-year rules. An increase in gross salary should therefore be followed by a separate income-tax calculation.

The Salary Revision Calculator India intentionally separates gross salary revision from tax estimation. This avoids presenting a universal take-home amount for employees with different tax circumstances. For further comparison, review the Tax Regime Savings Comparison Calculator.

Negotiating a salary revision

When discussing compensation, compare guaranteed fixed salary, variable incentives, benefits, promotion responsibilities and effective dates. Ask whether the proposed percentage applies to fixed gross pay, basic salary or total CTC. These bases can produce substantially different outcomes.

Employees can support a revision discussion with documented responsibilities, measurable contributions and relevant market evidence. The Salary Negotiation Target Calculator and Job Switch Salary Hike Calculator can help compare alternative compensation scenarios.

QUICK ANSWERS / 07

Salary Revision Calculator India FAQs

Answers to common questions about appraisal percentages, revised compensation, annual increments, arrears and payroll changes.

01 What is Salary Revision Calculator India?+

Salary Revision Calculator India is an online calculation tool for comparing existing and revised compensation. It calculates salary increases or decreases, actual percentage changes, revised monthly and annual salary, and simplified gross arrears. It does not automatically estimate income tax or net take-home salary.

02 How do I calculate a 10% salary revision?+

Multiply your existing salary by 10 and divide by 100 to find the increase. Add that amount to your original salary. For example, ₹40,000 plus a 10% increase of ₹4,000 gives a revised monthly salary of ₹44,000.

03 What is the formula for salary hike percentage?+

Subtract the old salary from the new salary, divide the difference by the old salary, and multiply by 100. For example, an increase from ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 is a 20% hike. The formula is undefined when the original salary is zero.

04 Can I calculate annual CTC revision?+

Yes. Select annual salary and enter the existing annual CTC. The calculator applies the chosen revision and shows the revised annual amount and monthly equivalent. Remember that monthly CTC equivalent is not necessarily monthly gross or take-home salary.

05 How do I calculate salary revision arrears?+

Multiply the monthly gross salary difference by the number of eligible completed months. Subtract gross arrears already paid. For example, a ₹3,000 monthly difference over four months produces ₹12,000 in gross arrears before deductions or adjustments.

06 Is salary revision the same as salary increment?+

Not always. An increment generally means an increase in salary, while a revision can involve restructuring compensation, changing allowances, modifying variable pay or reducing salary. Always check which components are being revised.

07 Does a 20% CTC hike mean 20% more take-home pay?+

No. CTC can include employer contributions, benefits and performance incentives. Employee deductions and income-tax withholding may also change. Compare the old and new fixed gross salary and then estimate the resulting take-home amount separately.

08 Can HR use this calculator for employee appraisals?+

Yes, for basic arithmetic and scenario comparisons. HR teams can calculate revised salary amounts and annualised differences. Formal payroll calculations must also consider employment contracts, applicable statutory rules, salary structures and approved effective dates.

09 What happens if my salary revision is negative?+

Select the percentage decrease method or enter a lower target salary. The calculator displays the reduction in monthly and annual compensation. Negative salary changes can have contractual or legal implications that the calculator does not assess.

10 Is an annual salary appraisal mandatory in India?+

There is no universal rule requiring every employer to provide the same annual percentage increase. Entitlements depend on applicable laws, employment terms, collective arrangements and employer policies. Review your contract and relevant official guidance for your circumstances.

11 Does salary revision affect provident fund?+

It may. If the revision changes contribution-bearing wages, employee and employer PF contributions can change according to applicable rules and arrangements. The exact calculation requires your payroll structure and contribution basis.

12 Can I use the calculator for a job switch?+

Yes. Enter your existing salary and the proposed compensation change to compare gross amounts. For a complete job-switch decision, separately evaluate fixed pay, bonuses, benefits, notice-period costs and the difference in expected take-home salary.
