Use the Salary After PF and Tax Calculator with different gross salary amounts to understand how your monthly deductions change. The examples below are starting points, not guaranteed take-home figures.

THE CALCULATION METHOD / 03

Salary After PF and Tax Calculator Formula

The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator follows the same broad deduction sequence used when reviewing an ordinary salary slip: begin with gross earnings, subtract employee-side deductions, and account for estimated income-tax withholding.

How monthly net salary is calculated
ComponentCalculation
Monthly gross salaryAnnual gross salary ÷ 12
Employee PFApplicable PF wage base × employee contribution rate
Monthly professional taxActual applicable payroll amount
Monthly income taxEstimated annual income tax ÷ 12
Monthly net salaryGross − employee PF − professional tax − other deductions − income tax
The calculation assumes earnings are distributed evenly across twelve months. Actual payroll may contain bonuses, arrears and adjustments.

Example: If monthly gross salary is ₹80,000, employee PF is ₹1,800, professional tax is ₹200 and estimated monthly TDS is ₹3,000, take-home salary is ₹75,000 before any additional payroll deductions. These are illustrative inputs, not a prediction of tax on ₹80,000 gross pay.

Always distinguish gross salary from cost to company. If your offer letter quotes CTC, employer-funded PF, gratuity provisions and other benefits may need to be removed before entering gross salary here. Use the CTC to in-hand salary calculator for that earlier conversion.

THE EXPLAINER / FIVE CHAPTERS GROSS • PF • TAX • NET PAY
02 PROVIDENT FUND

How Employee PF Changes Your Take-Home Salary

Employee provident fund is a retirement savings contribution deducted from eligible salary. For many covered employees, the usual contribution rate is 12% of applicable EPF wages. The exact wage basis depends on statutory provisions, coverage and employer policy, so the deduction is not necessarily 12% of the entire gross salary.

The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator provides three practical PF calculation choices: contributions using a ₹15,000 monthly wage ceiling, contributions on the full basic-pay assumption, and a custom monthly contribution. You can also select no PF when that accurately reflects your circumstances.

PF calculation on the statutory wage ceiling

Under a 12% contribution assumption, a ₹15,000 monthly PF wage base produces an employee contribution of ₹1,800 per month. This is a common reference amount, but it is not a universal maximum for every employee. Some payroll arrangements involve contributions on higher eligible wages.

For example, if an employee earns ₹30,000 in monthly basic pay but contributes on a ₹15,000 PF wage base, the modeled employee PF is ₹1,800. If the applicable contribution instead uses the full ₹30,000 basic pay, the modeled contribution is ₹3,600.

Why employer PF is treated differently

Employee PF reduces gross salary when calculating take-home pay. Employer PF is a separate employer-funded contribution and should not be subtracted again from gross salary. However, employer PF may already be included in a CTC package, which affects the earlier CTC-to-gross conversion.

This distinction prevents a common calculation error: deducting employer PF twice. If you only know your annual CTC, use a salary breakup before calculating employee deductions. The employee EPF contribution calculator and employer EPF calculator can help you examine both sides.

The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator treats the employee contribution as a cash deduction. Under the old tax regime, qualifying employee EPF contributions may also count toward Section 80C deductions, subject to the combined statutory limit. Enter eligible amounts within the old-regime deduction field without double counting.

03 INCOME TAX

How Income Tax Affects Salary After PF

Income tax is often the second major deduction employees consider after provident fund. The amount depends on taxable income rather than simply on gross salary. Standard deductions, eligible exemptions, deductions, tax slabs and rebates can change the annual liability substantially.

The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator compares simplified old-regime and new-regime tax calculations. It estimates annual tax using the applicable modeled slabs and distributes that amount evenly over twelve months to produce a monthly TDS estimate.

New income tax regime

For FY 2026–27, the modeled new regime uses progressive rates beginning with a zero-rate band up to ₹4 lakh of taxable income. It also includes the ₹75,000 standard deduction for qualifying salary income and simplified Section 87A rebate treatment for eligible resident individuals with ordinary income.

A qualifying resident individual with ordinary taxable income up to ₹12 lakh may benefit from a rebate of up to ₹60,000 under the modeled new-regime rules. This does not mean every employee with a ₹12 lakh CTC automatically pays no tax. Taxable income, residency and special-rate income must be considered separately.

Old income tax regime

The old regime uses different slabs and generally permits more eligible deductions and exemptions. Common considerations include Section 80C investments, qualifying insurance premiums, employee EPF and eligible house rent allowance exemptions. The calculator includes a ₹50,000 salary standard deduction in its old-regime estimate.

Choose the old regime only after considering your actual eligible deductions. A deduction cannot be claimed merely because you have spent money in that category. Different provisions have specific eligibility requirements, limits and documentation rules.

How monthly TDS is estimated

Tax deducted at source is the mechanism employers use to collect estimated income tax through payroll. The calculator divides modeled annual tax by twelve, but an employer may adjust deductions across the remaining months after bonuses, declarations, previous employment income or revised estimates.

The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator therefore gives an annualized monthly average, not a guarantee of the exact tax deduction on your next payslip. For a more focused calculation, explore the salary TDS monthly deduction calculator or the tax regime savings comparison calculator.

04 FIVE STEPS

5 Smart Steps to Calculate Salary After PF and Tax

Using the Salary After PF and Tax Calculator is easier when you have your salary breakup or payslip available. These five steps help you avoid confusing employer costs, gross earnings and employee-side deductions.

  1. Identify annual gross salary. Find total cash earnings before employee deductions. Do not enter headline CTC without adjusting for employer-funded benefits.
  2. Confirm employee PF. Check whether contributions use the statutory wage ceiling, full eligible basic pay or a different payroll amount.
  3. Select your tax regime. Choose the old regime, new regime or lower modeled tax. Enter valid deductions where applicable.
  4. Add professional tax and other deductions. Use amounts from your payslip rather than assuming every state and employer follows identical deductions.
  5. Review monthly and annual results. Compare the estimated net amount with your actual salary credit and investigate differences.

Worked example: ₹60,000 monthly gross salary

Suppose an employee receives ₹60,000 monthly gross salary, contributing ₹1,800 to PF. Assume professional tax of ₹200 per month, no other deductions and zero annual income tax under an eligible simplified new-regime calculation.

The estimated monthly net salary is ₹60,000 − ₹1,800 − ₹200 = ₹58,000. Over twelve months, that produces ₹6,96,000 in net salary, assuming unchanged pay and deductions throughout the year.

This example shows why a calculator should evaluate tax rather than automatically apply a fixed tax percentage. Under the modeled new-regime rules, qualifying ordinary taxable income may produce zero final tax after the applicable rebate. Different income circumstances can change that result.

Worked example: ₹1,00,000 monthly gross salary

Consider ₹12,00,000 annual gross salary, employee PF of ₹1,800 monthly and professional tax of ₹200 monthly. Under the modeled new regime, the ₹75,000 standard deduction reduces ordinary taxable salary to ₹11,25,000, assuming no other adjustments.

For an eligible resident individual with only ordinary income, the modeled Section 87A rebate reduces the calculated income tax to zero. Estimated monthly take-home becomes ₹98,000. This example excludes other deductions and is not applicable to every taxpayer or salary structure.

Interpreting a mismatch with your payslip

If the result differs from your bank credit, inspect bonus payments, unpaid leave, arrears, reimbursements, insurance deductions, salary advances and prior-month tax adjustments. Your employer may also use a different PF wage base or include statutory deductions outside this model.

Use the payslip deduction breakdown calculator when you need to reconcile individual lines. The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator is most useful as a planning estimate alongside real payroll documentation.

05 PAYROLL DETAILS

Other Deductions That Affect Monthly Net Salary

PF and income tax are not the only amounts that can reduce salary credits. Professional tax, employee state insurance where applicable, labour welfare fund contributions, insurance premiums and employer-authorized recoveries can also appear on payslips. These items depend on location, employment conditions and company policy.

The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator includes a professional tax input and a separate field for additional monthly deductions. Keeping these fields separate makes it easier to understand which amount is statutory, which is tax withholding and which is specific to your employment arrangement.

Professional tax varies by state

Professional tax is governed by applicable state legislation rather than one uniform national salary rate. Some states have different salary bands, while others do not levy it. Certain jurisdictions also have special monthly or annual collection patterns.

For accurate results, use the actual amount appearing on your salary slip. You can examine state-specific information through the professional tax calculator and the professional tax rates guide.

Employee State Insurance and other contributions

ESI coverage depends on applicable wage and establishment eligibility conditions. It should not be applied automatically to every salary. Employees who are covered may have additional contributions that reduce their take-home amount.

Similarly, labour welfare fund contributions may apply under particular state rules. Employer-sponsored benefits can create deductions or employer costs depending on their structure. Enter only employee-side payroll deductions in the additional-deductions field.

Common salary calculation mistakes

  • Entering annual CTC as gross salary without adjusting for employer costs.
  • Subtracting employer PF from gross salary a second time.
  • Applying 12% employee PF to the entire gross salary without checking the wage base.
  • Assuming income tax equals a fixed percentage of monthly gross pay.
  • Claiming old-regime deductions without verifying eligibility or limits.
  • Ignoring state-specific professional tax and payroll recoveries.

The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator helps organize these deductions, but it cannot replace the detailed payroll rules applicable to your employment. Verify unusual entries with your employer's payroll department.

06 SALARY PLANNING

Use Net Salary to Make Better Career Decisions

Salary negotiations frequently focus on CTC or percentage increases. However, the amount available for monthly spending depends on fixed gross pay, tax, retirement contributions and other deductions. Two offers with similar headline compensation may produce different monthly bank credits.

Before accepting a new job, compare recurring fixed salary separately from variable incentives. A performance bonus is not necessarily guaranteed, and a joining bonus may apply only once. Benefits such as employer PF and insurance can be valuable without increasing immediate monthly cash.

The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator can support this comparison after you establish the gross salary under each offer. Use the offer-letter salary breakdown calculator to identify compensation components and the fixed and variable pay calculator to distinguish recurring pay from incentives.

Net salary also provides a more useful starting point for budgeting. Rent, loan payments, savings and daily expenses are paid from money actually available in your bank account. Retirement savings through EPF remain valuable, but they are not the same as spendable monthly cash.

For a relocation or remote-work decision, compare housing and commuting costs alongside the new net salary. Explore the cost-of-living adjusted salary calculator for a broader view of the offer.

New-Regime Income Tax Slabs for FY 2026–27

The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator uses progressive new-regime tax bands for the modeled financial year. Tax applies to income within each band rather than charging the highest applicable rate on the entire taxable income.

The calculation includes a simplified Section 87A rebate and marginal-relief model for eligible resident individuals earning ordinary income. Actual liability may differ because of special-rate income, surcharge, additional earnings and other statutory provisions.

Always verify the applicable tax year before making payroll or filing decisions. Review official guidance from the Income Tax Department ↗.

QUICK ANSWERS / 09

Salary After PF and Tax Calculator FAQs

Answers to common questions about employee PF, tax deductions, gross earnings and take-home salary in India.

01 What does the Salary After PF and Tax Calculator calculate?+

The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator estimates monthly net salary after employee PF, income tax, professional tax and any additional deductions entered. It starts from annual gross salary rather than employer CTC and provides a simplified annual and monthly breakdown.

02 Is employee PF always ₹1,800 per month?+

No. ₹1,800 represents 12% of a ₹15,000 monthly PF wage base. Contributions can differ when a higher eligible wage base applies. Check your employer's policy and payslip.

03 Does PF reduce taxable salary?+

Employee PF reduces take-home cash. Qualifying employee EPF contributions may also support Section 80C deductions under the old tax regime, subject to statutory limits. The new regime generally does not allow the same Section 80C deduction.

04 Is gross salary the same as CTC?+

No. CTC can include employer-funded contributions and benefits. Gross salary generally represents earnings before employee deductions. Convert CTC into gross salary before using this calculator.

05 Does the calculator include professional tax?+

Yes. Enter your applicable monthly professional tax amount. The tool does not assume a universal state rate because professional tax rules vary across India.

06 Can salary income qualify for zero income tax?+

Eligible resident individuals may receive a Section 87A rebate on qualifying ordinary taxable income under the new regime. A zero-tax result depends on taxable income and applicable conditions, not merely the headline salary or CTC.

07 Why is my employer deducting more TDS?+

Employers can adjust TDS for bonuses, previous employment, declared income, revised deductions or the number of payroll months remaining. This calculator shows an even annualized estimate rather than a month-specific payroll forecast.

08 Does the Salary After PF and Tax Calculator support both regimes?+

Yes. The Salary After PF and Tax Calculator estimates old-regime and new-regime income tax. You can select either regime or the lower modeled tax. Your actual eligibility and filing choice must be verified separately.

09 Are ESI and insurance deductions included?+

They are not calculated automatically. If applicable, enter employee-side ESI, insurance or other payroll deductions in the additional-deductions field. Do not enter employer-funded costs there.

10 Can I use this calculator for a job offer?+

Yes, once you know the annual gross salary and expected employee deductions. If you only have CTC, first establish the gross cash component using the offer-letter salary breakup.

11 Does the result include bonuses and arrears?+

The calculator assumes evenly distributed annual gross salary. Irregular bonuses, arrears and one-time payments require separate consideration because they can affect both cash flow and TDS timing.

12 Where should I verify PF and income tax rules?+

Consult the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation for EPF guidance and the Income Tax Department for tax provisions. Use your employer's payroll documents for individual salary details.
